Why do you think Product54’s 9X6 has been around for so long and what’s its backstory?

It started as a personal journey.

We ourselves had tried everything available on the market only to experience bad reactions and skin irritations. That led us to work with Dow Corning in 2010 and 9X6 was born. When we shared the product with others, their gratitude and feedback confirmed our creation could help people. Our success is a result of our passion to find a hypoallergenic solution and once we found it, the blend has remained the same for the last 14 years.

Wait, I’ve heard silicone lube is bad, can you explain?

It’s not the silicone, it’s the ingredients other brands use to make their product cheaper or mislead customers into thinking it’s good for their skin.

Ingredients like parabens, glycerin, Vitamin E and Aloe. Harsh chemicals and heat are required to synthesize the Vitamin E and Aloe. When those compounds reach over 100 degrees, they turn into formaldehyde. Research has also shown they can stay up inside the body as long as three weeks.

9X6 Pure Silicone is a blend of pure, medical grade silicone fluids. It doesn’t contain any of those substances.

We donate thousands of dollars of in-kind product donations to LGBTQ+ organizations for fundraisers and events to promote and inform others of their cause. We are one of the only (and perhaps the only) lube companies who are completely gay-owned and operated. Any LGBTQ+ non-profit organization/cause who reaches out to us for assistance, receives it.

In addition, our passion to educate others and preserve the history of the gay community lead us to create GAYVM (gayvm.com). We’ve enjoyed collecting gay memorabilia and art for the last 19 years while learning the challenges those before us faced. This experience has fueled the fire and passion to educate our community. We are living in a chaotic world. Our rights remain in constant turmoil and could at any moment disappear. We should never forget the struggles and challenges of those before us and we make sure we maintain the dialogue.

What are your 2024 goals?

Our focus will remain on our mission to provide pure silicone products that are stain-free, hypoallergenic, and do not contain harsh chemicals – and to continue to make them affordable.

We will also be releasing our newest brand, Head Furst, for the four-legged, furry rulers of our lives other people call pets. We all love the dogs and cats in our lives. Head Furst is an aftergrooming product we use weekly which helps their coats shine and conditions their skin. It will also be made of pure, medical grade silicone with no harsh chemicals.
