Social media has been around for several years; however, it’s constantly evolving and growing in popularity, with new platforms emerging all the time. It has become an integral part of every business, therefore, if you are camming or creating content, in order to be competitive using socials for promotion is a must.
The first thing you have to consider when promoting on social media is that most of them won’t allow any NSFW content and they, or their users, tend to be biased towards sex workers. Once you get past that, it follows that you should choose a platform which best suits your personality and style. Further, not all social media platforms are equal: some are better suited for particular types of content than others. My personal favorite for photos is Instagram, for NSFW posts it’s Twitter, and for videos it’s TikTok.
On a side note, I know that some sexworkers aren’t keen on openly promoting on platforms which are biased towards them; I understand and respect their point of view, but my take on this is slightly different. I believe that it starts with you – anyone posting should be clear about exactly what it is they are promoting.
Pretending to be or do something else in order to “trick” potential customers to click on your spicy links is not only a misrepresentation, but it also upsets people who may take it a step further and report you.
By being open about what you do, you will attract the right viewers which can become fans rather than enemies. In addition, being honest about your work can clear misconceptions the general public has about the adult industry.
In order to promote your content on social media, it’s essential to create posts that not only have a purpose, but also reflect your style.
This means engaging your followers which will make them remember your posts because they stand out. Nowadays, there’s an overload of posts and re-posts, so, from a male perspective, we can endlessly scroll through hot photos of beautiful girls but remember none of them at the end of the day. That’s because the majority of those posts, videos, reels and so on are similar. Even if they can get some hearts here and there, they won’t bring more viewers into their cam room or on their site.
To be memorable, your audience needs to recognize your style or brand.
However, with so many models trying to do the same it’s not quick or easy, so one must have patience – brand is built over time and is strengthened by interaction with your audience and fellow models.
In addition, the key to being visible on social media is to be strategic and focused.
Some models prefer to pay for promotion, while others prefer to do it all by themselves by scheduling posts in advance. I don’t have experience of paid promotion, so I don’t know if it brings more viewers or customers, but as a cam model, the timing of posting is relevant because it will tell your audience that you are, or very soon will be, available to interact live.
Lastly, don’t forget that social media is always evolving and improving their algorithms, therefore, your tags and keywords are important. Thought needs to be put into them in order to be on top of your audience feed and avoid shadow banning.
